๐Ÿ“ About Eid al-Adha 2027

Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is the holier of the two major Islamic holidays and commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, it coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Families who can afford it sacrifice a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, dividing the meat into three portions: one for the household, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need. The day begins with a congregational prayer followed by a sermon, after which the sacrifice is performed. Festive meals, new clothing, and visits to family members fill the remainder of the holiday, which lasts two to four days. Eid al-Adha is celebrated by roughly 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide and is a public holiday in dozens of countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
