📝 About ACT Exam 2026
Introduced in 1959 by University of Iowa professor Everett Franklin Lindquist as a competitor to the SAT, the ACT was designed to measure achievement in high school curricula rather than abstract aptitude, covering English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science with an optional Writing section. Scored on a 1-36 composite scale, it surpassed the SAT in total test-takers for the first time in 2012, partly because several states mandated the ACT for all high school juniors. Unlike the SAT, the ACT includes a dedicated Science section testing data interpretation and reasoning skills. Over 1.4 million students took the ACT in 2023, and the exam also offers the WorkKeys assessment for career readiness, reflecting its philosophy that college is not the only valid post-secondary pathway.
